I have had this car for about 4 weeks now and I am loving it. It was bought with the understanding that it had issues, mostly body and interior. The car in its self is very good.
The engine is excellent, and the sound is amazing. I am not really able to work on it, as the car is parked on the street and that always makes it an issue. I have been searching for a garage till I am blue in the face, and now, maybe one has come up. I still need to discuss this, but fingers crossed. So I have decided on the smaller things, like a minor service. So I have bought and fitted the following,
Distributor cap
Rotor Arm
Castrol GTX (mineral)
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Sump Plug
NGK Spark Plugs
Carb Cleaner
First off, the distributor cap and rotor arm. The distributor cap was dirty, and it looks like oil has been blown in over the years, so I cleaned the entire distributor, and fitted a new rotor arm and cap. Next the NGK spark plugs. I always take extra care in this operation as I like to inspect the plugs that come out. Cylinder 3 plug was wet, and seemed a little looser then the rest.
There was a little extra oil than I would have expected, but I was not really worried about this, it was still a normal level for a cam area. New plugs in and air filter is next. An easy clip operation and this was done in a few seconds.
Next oil, Filter and sump plug.
A quick tip at this point. The Oil filter comes off quite easy if you turn it the right way! Anyway, oil and filter and sump plug done it was time for a clean up and a test drive. The car out and it ran cooler and sounded nicer! Though it still stalls under full acceleration.
So more inspection needed. At least the basics are out of the way now.
Inspection.
The car is sound, though it has some glaring issues. Namely the dent in the driver’s wing. The doors are terrible, though the passenger’s front door is saveable. The interior is bad as well. Walnut aftermarket door cappings and no roof liner. Electrically, it’s excellent. Only let down by the rear wiper motor, which has broken.
Engine? As started the engine and gearbox are sound, maybe needing a clutch soon and a thorough clean.
